Rachel's first Report Card
Yup....she got her first report card....at 2 years and 2 months old...
There was a parent meet teacher (individually) session held by the school on Saturday. I went, got Rachel's report card...and sort of got chastised by the teacher as well....hmmmmm....why you may wonder, since I have been doing such a great job!!!! (hahahahaha....self praise....ego has been deflated, so have to sort of inflate it myself again!!!!!)
Anyway, according to the teacher, despite being the youngest in the whole school, Rachel is considered VERY STEADY...yup. that's the word she used to describe R.
However, Rachel kept on repeating in school that "Rachel is a Good Girl"..... well, I am guilty as charge....I always praise her "good girl" when she does something right, and when I "teach" her how to do something right....or when she stops doing something that I asked her not to......
Her teacher said this is not positive learning for the kid..... And Rachel's just learning or doing things because she wants to please me....and not because she really wants to do it.... This can lead to insecurity in her life... (oh gosh....I hope I did not break her!!!!! ) It's a lot of mumbo jumbo....but long story cut short...I gotta praise her differently and promote more positive learning....what does this mean.....hmmmm.....I will be buying some communication with my toddler books....and will write more on it!!!!!
Oh yah, when her teacher passed me some of her art work, I took out this "carrot-like" paper thingy and asked the teacher....what's this? is this a carrot?.....ooooohhhhh....teacher told me NOT to question the kid's artwork.....it's abstract....aiya......if she's writing my report card, am sure I will get lotsa F's....... sighhhhh........
Praising may not be the best for your kid.....MAN..... this parenting thingy is not easy!!!
ps:// You may be wondering what's in the report card....Will write more on that later...Oh yah...I got some of her art work back as well. I have proudly displayed it on our fridge. Will take some pics of that later!!!!
pps://hubby has bought me a new camera.....do expect better quality pics from now on!!!!

i say "good girl" to my girl A LOT... including after she's done a poo! i tot it's positive reinforcement.
hahahaha.....little do we know, rite? I thought it was positive reinforcement too. he, he...will definitely have to read more on this. and get back to u:) i gotta mend what i nearly break!!!! hahahahaha
i always tell my son 'so clever' when he does something right. isn't that's what parenting books preach?! do you think the teacher school of thought is right??
this may turn into a long long discussion if we ever have to look at it...well, i don't think i will follow EVERYTHING the teacher says. I still say good girl sometimes...but not always now. and i think she has sort of stopped calling herself that today.....instead, i praise her with "oh, rachel knows how to put back the cups!!!" or "it's good that you have finished your food!" something like that lah....i have also bought a book on discipline miracle....and later, will buy another book (yet to find a suitable one) on communication with toddlers..... will share on that once i have read them!!!
so complicated - praise also wrong..how lah....
