Rachel

....amazes me sometimes with what she can do....and what she cannot do!!! (the cannot do part frustrates me loads!!)

Let's start with what she still can't do well!!! She still can't follow through instructions which frustrates me, especially when I need to nag her all the time to finish her homework (homework given by me, finish the water in her bottle in school, finish her meal quick, pack up her toys after messing around with it....etc etc....the list does not stop anywhere!!!!!) And she still can't get some of her numbers or alphabets right! Like writing C inverted way, or a mirror image of 6 for number 6, or a mirror image of 5 for number 5!!!!! A lot of other mothers whose kids are slightly older assured me that it will be the case until at least primary....but i still find it frustrating, as she does know her alphabets and numbers, and if only she could concentrate better!!!!

But the things that she can do!!!!

She can be SOOOOOOOO sisterly and loving to her lil brother.
She can do her additions quite well, if she sits down still and concentrates on it.
She can read some Peter and Jane books.
She can make up songs so easily. And the way she talks to her daddy!!!! so so cute (and frustrating sometimes)!!!!
She can get along well with kids her age, and kids not her age!!!! Though sometimes I think she gets bullied easily....

And what amazes me most is sometimes, she comes back with some schoolwork that I could not imagine her doing 2 months ago!!! Like this one.... her teacher specifically wrote "done by herself" at the back of this artwork.....

It seems that she wrote all words by herself, and did all the drawings on her own. I find it pretty. But her not-so-creative daddy did not see what she was drawing....and could not understand why I was so excited:) hehehehe.....

This shows that your 'nag nag' power contribute to her study.Of course with all the travel experiences added value to her drawing. So you may use this point to ask Hoong for the next family trip may be ;)

Very impressive artwork Rachel! I wd be v proud of her. Why do they need to learn inverted C, & mirror image 6 & 5? I dont get that.

Mommy, they don't learn. They are taught the right way to write C, 6, 5 etc. but not too sure why they sometimes don't remember, and write it inverted/mirror-imaged. She sometimes does that with numbers 3 and 9 also!!!! Hmmm, gotta read up which part of the brain that causes that, and what exercise I need to do more with her to rectify it!!!

Don't worry.. They sort it out themselves soon. It's just a phase :-)
That's very good work that Rachel did!

Don't worry about the writing part.. Jay Syn does the same thing for quite some time and I've checked with her teacher and she says it is quite normal... some kids continue to write this way until they are in Year 2...

As for not following instructions.. your description matches exactly what I am experiencing with Jay Syn!! Hahaha :P
