Rachel's favourite parent

She has proclaimed out loud that her favourite is daddy now....sob sob for mummy....but in a way, i am glad that they are really close, and with me being strict with her, I guess she does need to "trust" one of us enough to be chummy and not keep any secrets from.....(well, it was hubby who claims that that is important....to his convenience...bleh!!!!)

Anyhow......

They do look alike in some ways....

Kenneth is ONE

Kenneth's birthday was 2 days ago. We got him a Sicilian Cheesecake from Lorenzino Cafe here. It was yummy.... I don't think he knows or understand this significant milestone. Hence, it was not necessary to have a big party for him. That's what we felt:) Well, we will save up the effort and have parties for him when he is older and has friends to invite!!!! hahahaha...that's our lazy excuse:)

Kenneth has turned the big ONE. My boy is a toddler now. No more a baby, he is an individual who knows what he wants. who points and makes noise to get what he wants. who screams and cries to get what he wants. who stamps his feet to get what he wants.... basically he does get what he wants:)

He has started walking on his own a week before he turned one, albeit not being too confident. He has also started climbing....the sofa, his sis's chair, the window ledge, the ice-box in the kitchen...you name it. Anything he sees which is slightly above his waist/chest level, he will try to climb.

He knows how to play rough as well. Especially with his sister. He pulls her hair to make her squeal, grinning the whole time while doing that. He fights with his sister for whatever toy she is playing with. He throws things down whenever he is on a high chair. His mealtimes are ALWAYS messy....

He is as attached to his sister now, and they are very close. I really hope that their relationship will be as strong ever.

Happy Birthday Kenneth:) Mummy, Daddy and Rachel love you loads!!!!

Sleeping routines

Since Rachel was born, I seldom get a dreamless good night of sleep. The only nights I am away from Rachel was when I was away for work (she will be with her daddy then), or when I was on holiday with her daddy (she will then be with my parents).... And those nights are really scarce. I don't think it even makes up 0.1% of the nights so far.... As for Kenneth, I have NOT left his side even for a single night. And he is turning one in 4 days time.....

Every evening, before we go to bed, I wonder how the night will be for me. Of course, I will be praying for a good night's sleep. Nature has it that even if the boy sleeps through the night, the girl will wake up in the midst of her dreams and call out to me. Also, most of the time, when I do wake up in the middle of the night, I am not too sure which room I am in....whether I am in my own bedroom, or the children's room... How tired out can I be!!!!! So, really.... I have not had a dreamless 8 hours of sleep for a VERY VERY long time.

Last night was classic. Kenneth decided to fall asleep at 7pm. Then, woke up at 8pm, played till 10.30pm, when all of us decided to go to bed. At 3.40am, I woke up, thinking how great my kids were, sleeping without waking me up and it was already past 3am.... and lo behold, the boy decided to wake me up at 3.49am.... I carried him to Rachel's king size bed (yes, she sleeps on a king size bed, and still manages to kick us at our ribs whenever we decide to sleep with her....) fed him, hoping it won't take long, and he will just go back to bed. Instead, he was wide awake after feeding him for 15 mins. He pushed my breasts away, started rolling on his sister's bed, and decided that it was fun to climb onto his sister. Rachel just rolled away and continue sleeping. Before I could reach out to him, Kenneth decided to pull Rachel's hair instead....HARD!!!

It took me nearly an hour before he slept again... How tired do you think I am this morning....

Kenneth can walk on his own

....though he still does not want to do it that often...

one week before he turns one, he can now walk unsupported on his own. however, he still has no urge to do it all the time. he still prefers to hold my hand while he walks or just crawl. it does seem faster for him to do that:)

anyway, am glad that this milestone has been achieved.....

Happy New 2-0-1-0

Kenneth fooling around with a bowl from the kitchen...

The kids love pancakes and I often make more during the weekend and pack them for the road...

The kids looking great in orange.....clothes sponsored by their lovely May Yee

It's been a month since my last post. Much has happened.... our trip back to M'sia, a wedding, Christmas, another course of antibiotics for Kenneth and hubby, coming home to Kuwait (yes, we call this place home now...) and of course the event-less new year. And most importantly, Kenneth calling me mama now. We were not sure initially whether he was calling me when he calls out mama or sometimes meh-meh.... as he has been using this phrase for the last couple of weeks. But hubby finally admitted that Kenneth IS calling me ma-ma....and he calls Rachel - Deh-deh (instead of cheh cheh)...

Lil Kenneth will be turning 1 soon. Time does pass fast. He can stand (hands free) on his own now. And he can walk quite steadily with us holding one of his hands. We know he can walk on his own, but he has not gathered up enough courage to do so. He loves to walk. He has this adorable technique where even if I am lying down, he will grab hold of one of my index fingers, position himself so that his back faces me, pull my hand up and leverage himself on my hand so that he can stand up and subsequently use me as a "walking cane".....

Kenneth loves to get out of the house and walk in the garden. Every time I say "come, let's go", or when his sister starts putting on her jacket, he gets excited, pointing and pulling me towards the door. And when we are out there, he laughs out really loud and starts walk/running towards wherever. I shudder to think how much work it will be to follow him around when he can walk without using me as a walking cane!!!!!

Kenneth loves books. With a box of toys, and a few books lying around, he will always without fail pick up a book and poke us with the book near our faces. His poking will get harder and he will start making lots of noise, until we finally sit down, flip open the book and read to him. His current favourite is one of Rachel's Barney books... Baby Bop's purse.

I have yet to wean Kenneth off my breasts. It does not seem like I will be able to do so in the near future. Also, there's no real urgency for me to give up breastfeeding as yet. Other than breastmilk, Ken takes 3 meals a day, and many little snacks. With 2 bottom teeth now, he can chew on anything, from pieces of chicken to grapes to biscuits.

Kenneth can squeal like a girl. At really high pitch. And this happens when he is unhappy and crying, or when he is happily excited about something, especially when playing with Rachel. It's adorable to see both of them playing together.

Rachel loves Kenneth loads. But my brother has this theory....she acts up more these days, crying and whining, because she subconsciously wants more attention. Well, I can't deny that the time I spend with Rachel and the patience I have when dealing with her has reduced loads. I am just grateful that she does not hate lil Kenneth. So, no matter how much she misbehaves, she never takes it out on Kenneth. Love this girl so much for this....but at the same time, she can really test my patience when she starts whining, which is quite often these days....

She loves school....and hubby and I have concluded that Rachel is no genius. She is an average fun-loving kid who needs to be drilled when it comes to learning. Again, I shudder to think of how stressed I will be when guiding her in her studies.... I have no doubt that job will fall onto my lap, and not hubby's.

Her favourite person now is her daddy. ... sob..sob...it's no more yours truly. She has declared this in front of both hubby and I. Most probably coz I am the strict parent...and not the fun one...Well, I should not expect anything less, right?

Happy New 2-0-1-0 everyone.....
