Speedy development

Rachel amazes us each day with what she learns and the pace she learns it….I have been repeating that over and over again…..makes me sound like a broken record….

But, anyhow…..

She has learnt that she communicates with MIL and FIL in mandarin….English with Mummy and Daddy and a mixture of Cantonese and English with Grandma and Kung Kung.

Last nite, she wanted to talk to Grandma on the phone. So, I called grandma and passed the phone to Rachel….She was rambling on to grandma about swimming, Ipoh, Barney Cake…etc..etc…..I did not hear what grandma said…she must have told Rachel that she will be visiting with us tomorrow…..coz at the end of the conversation, I heard Rachel said OK. BYE BYE….C U TOMORO…….

I was amazed……daddy was amazed…..grandma was amazed too……

And yesterday afternoon, MIL related that when FIL came back from a hair cut, Rachel looked at him and said (in mandarin)…. “yeh yeh…..jian tou fatt ahhhhh?????” (cut hair ahhhhh?)

A few days back, R started imitating her music teacher from school. She will come to daddy and I and say… “sit down here and cross your legs” *pointing to the floor* ….. then she will go to the sofa near by and said “ok ahhhh……we sing song” and started playing on a make believe piano……and started to sing, pause, play, turn to us to give instructions….etc….

Oh, and our dear girl is used to having supper when her uncle has his dinner as well.....last night, while watching her barney videos, she paused and asked me.. "where's ah koo? ah koo buy noodles?"

heating element

another non-rachel rambling.....

my brother bought 2 char siew pau last nite for his brekkie this morning. he asked me whether it was ok to leave the 2 char siew paus just like that without putting them in the fridge.

I asked him to keep them in the fridge, and just heat them up in the microwave in the morning.

lazy lah......was his reply....

this time, hubby rolled his eyes and said......"just put the 2 char siew paus under each armpit on the way to work. that will work as well....."

hmmmm.....remind me NOT to get hubby to heat anything up for Rachel or me.....

yummy!!!!!

he, he....I have become sort of vain these days.....as I noticed more lines at the corner of my eyes and around my mouth... And the greatest trigger is when hubby told me that it MAY be best not to take a close up photo of Rachel and me....as there is quite a big difference with our skin texture and colour!!!!!!! *big sigh* Well, he was basically telling me the truth, albeit it being brutal.

So, I have begun investing in LOTS of makeup and skincare.....*the last laugh is from me at hubby*..... the key to selling any makeup to me is the word "anti-aging".

Rachel is starting young as well, emulating my "put cream", "put powder", "put eye liner", "put lipstick" etc..... routine....

hahahahahaha.....in the name of beauty!!!!!!!

Imagination gone wild?

Yesterday, when preparing for bed, Rachel sat on her big big bolster, which we used to safeguard her from banging onto the wall when sleeping (oh...we do need that with all the rolling she does when she sleeps!!!). She called out to me and said: "Mummy, see....Horse!!!"....then while still sitting on her "horse", she dragged it out from her mattress and said...."Mummy, horse go mummy there..." and followed me around the room ON her "horse".....cute?!?!?!?! I think so!!!!!

*hmmmm...but we may need to start speaking proper english instead of manglish to her....she's catching up too fast on the manglish!!!!!

Irony

Not a rambling about Rachel….

It is such an irony that life is such as this……when you desperately yearn for something, it evades you….and when you have moved on and stopped needing that something….it comes and haunt you big time.

Once young and eager, I yearned to travel the world for work. Once young and eager, I yearned for work opportunities that demand my fullest attention. Alas….such yearning was futile…..THEN.

NOW….it all comes pouring onto my lap…..

The latest is a chance to travel to South Africa for a mini due diligence work. 12 days away from home. When I was young and eager, this would be a life opportunity that I will jump at…..Now….the first thing that comes into my mind is….12 DAYS AWAY?!?!?!

Well, I have rejected the offer…much to my bosses’ chagrin. But I know it’s the right move, although I did grieve (whoa….a big word) a bit….

Again….life is ironic....

For Love or Money

Rachel: Mummy, no more money

Me : * shocked*…What?! Daddy….did you hear what she said?

Daddy: Rachel….we don’t talk about money. We talk about LUUUUURRRRRRRVE……

*****oooooh.....did I mention that Rachel has progressed to Mummy from Mama? and Diddy from Dadae? ....it is exciting news for me.... although it might sound silly or childish or "what is the big difference/hoo-hah about that?!?!?!" to you when reading this........****silly grin******

the terrible....stage

It is official…Rachel is in her terrible two stage…..she will stamp her feet, scream and whine, until daddy and I give in to all her whims and whams….

And when we are determined NOT to give in to all her ridiculous whims and whams….she resorts to her pleading and cajoling “PUHHHLEEEASE…….mummy/daddy”

In conclusion, Rachel gets all her whims and whams….

Row Row Boat

Rachel loves singing….

And lately, her pronounciation is getting better, and we sort of get what she’s singing….*proud proud*

This is what we got from her latest favourite:

Row, row, row boat (she pronounce it boot)
Gently down the stream
I see crocodile
All falling down
ARRRRRGHHHHHHH *she will run around and scream*

I googled it up…. (believe it or not, I googled it)…..and this is what I got…..slightly different from her version, but I am still proud that she managed to pronounce most of it quite well!!!!!

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
If you see a crocodile,
Don't forget to scream.
Argh!

Oh yah. This row boat version is a Mr Bean creation!!!!!

Guilts of being a mom

Since Rachel was born, I always think that I am quite good in this motherhood thing. I make sure she has the best of all that we can provide…..breast milk for 13 months….good sturdy clothes….full attention….fun wooden toys……solid food made with tender loving care…fun school…..good medical attention…..organic raisins….. EVERYTHING!!!!!! I thought I had everything under control…..until recently…..

It’s not like I flopped big time….I hope I will never do that, when it comes to Rachel…….but there were little little things that I think I overlooked……..OH NO!!!!!! sob sob….. I am being a wee bit dramatic here………

I forgot Rachel’s Deepavali’s party at school…so, she was dressed in her uniform when all other kids at school were in their party gear…..

I overlooked the school note about early dismissal on the last day of school….so, the teacher had to accompany her for an additional hour before MIL picked her up from school….

I kept on forgetting that she had this little wound on her tongue…anything acidic will cause pain….and I always forget and feed her vitamin C…which caused her to yelp in pain EVERYTIME!!!!!!

I always take for granted that she can take any chilly condition…..so, I always forget that she needs a jacket when she dresses light at night and also in shopping malls…..

I am delaying the “going pamper-less at night” process as I am too lazy in case if accidents DO happen…..

I think I better stop listing down any more “flops”… don’t really want Rachel to read this motherhood failure part……..

Moreover, the longer the list gets, the more upset and guilty I will feel…….

speech development......

Ok…..I will now relax a bit when it comes to Rachel’s speech development….

Instead, I am now keeping track on what she says….and what I think she said!!!! J

R : Mama…..see….I show you arrrr……

R : Mama….see….I take your one…..

R : Mama…see…..ah koo’s IPOD
She was pointing to ….yes!!!.... my brother’s IPOD!!!!

R : Daddy….i want jelly….i want mamee…..
Daddy : No more mamee and jelly at home
R : Daddy buy
Daddy : No, Daddy’s not buying.
R : Mama buy
Daddy : No, Mummy’s not buying.
R : Rachel buy!!!!!

Me : Rachel, what did you eat with daddy just now?

R : ummmmm… (she has learnt how to pause with an ummmmmm now), jelly,
SOMEMORE mamee…..SOMEMORE choc-lat….. SOMEMORE vi-gen(vitagen)

Oh….and Rachel can say No in more ways than NO!!!

She can say:

I dun wan

a-not, annot (meaning cannot)

no more

but of course the classic NOOOOOOOOO is still a favourite

Rachel has also learnt our full names…..that’s quite an achievement, I think since our names are not that common or easy to remember….And it’s a combination of 3 chinese words!!!!

Since the week she was with kung kung and grandma, she has been really curious on what things are….. her way of asking will be to point at an item, and ask “This?” And we are supposed to name the item, and tell her what it is…

Hubby and I came to a conclusion that school has done wonders for Rachel, although she has only been attending school for less than 3 months. And the greatest thing is, she loves school!!!!
